Floriography
Wood box, text, 26 slides with different plant samples, 4 x 14 x 22 cm, 2014.

Floriography is based on a cryptological communication through the use or arrangement of flowers.

Interest in the language of flowers soared in Victorian England during the 19th century. Gifts of flowers, plants, and specific floral arrangements were used to send a coded message to the recipient, allowing the sender to express feelings which could not be spoken aloud in Victorian society.

The work portrays a dictionary from this time in which I have based the selection of plants from the assortment of plants that my father cultivates in his garden center.
